In order for Madison Middle School to become the outstanding campus we wish it to become, there must be clarity in:

The following vision statement is intended to provide the standards that Madison Middle School should strive to achieve and maintain.

I. Curriculum

            An outstanding campus provides students with a curriculum that meets the needs of the holistic learner.  In such a school, the curriculum:

A.   Stimulates active engagement on the part of students

B.   Recognizes and provides for individual differences and interests of all learners

C.   Addresses mastery of academic content while allowing for the integration of essential life skills

D.   Reflects the district’s support of innovation and commitment to continuous improvement

II.   PERSONNEL

An outstanding school operates on the premise that a school can only be as good as the personnel that it employs.  In such a school:

A.   All staff members demonstrate their support of and commitment to the school’s mission,vision and values.

B.   All staff members feel empowered to teach “outside” the box and are not afraid of failure; instead, failure is viewed as a learning experience that gives us an opportunity to grow stronger.

C.   All staff members have high expectations for student success and work individually and collaboratively to create conditions that promote student success.

D.   All staff members model the importance of lifelong learning through their commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning that occurs from collaborating with other staff members.

III. STUDENTS

The effectiveness of any school is assessed not only on the academic achievement of its students, but on the basis of the conduct and character of its students.  In an outstanding school, students:

A.   Accept responsibility for their learning, decisions, and actions.

B.   Become actively engaged in and give their best effort to academic and co-curricular pursuits.

C.   Contribute to school and community service.

D.   Conduct themselves in a way that contributes to a safe and orderly atmosphere that ensures the rights of others.

E.   Are considerate of others--teachers, staff, fellow students, visitors, etc.

IV. CLIMATE

            An outstanding school provides aclimate that enables students to enjoy their middle school experience and results in a shared sense of pride in the school.  In such a school:

A.   There is a commitment to provide an emotionally and physically safe, supportive environment

B.   There is an ongoing effort to providing a school that is free of alcohol, other drugs, bullying, and violence.

C.   All individuals are treated with respect and consideration.

D.   Relationships are characterized by caring and cooperation.

E.   There is recognition and celebration of individual effort and achievement.

F.    There is open communication between students, staff, and administrators.

G.   Well-maintained physical facilities meet the needs of students and the community and reflect pride in the school.

V. COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

            An outstanding school recognizes the importance of establishing effective partnerships with the larger community –parents, residents, businesses, government agencies, etc.  It strives to develop the community’s allegiance to and ownership in the school. In such a school:

A.   The community demonstrates its support for the vision and values of the school

B.   The community participates in the life of the school by attending programs,volunteering service, and assisting in the processes that have been designed to enhance various aspects of the school.

C.   The community calls upon the school to establish effective two-way communication that both provides information and seeks feedback.

D.   Parents play an active role in the education of their children, monitor their children’s academic performance, and work with teachers to emphasize the importance of education.
