We believe that First Grade is a very crucial year in a child’s life. It is amazing to watch the transformations that occur in a year.

As First Grade Teachers, we have a strategy to help our students become independent readers. This strategy is called “The Daily 5.” Students spend much of their literacy time doing one of five things: Reading to Self, Reading to Someone, Listening to Reading, Writing to Self and Word Work. We have found that implementing these strategies has helped our students become accurate and fluent readers while learning to enjoy it at the same time.

At Bonham Elementary, we believe strongly that every student can succeed. We trust that when our students leave first grade, they will leave ready and eager for what is ahead.
