Dyess Kindergarteners
Aim High in the Future
This is a very exciting time in your child’s life. Students will experience many things and go through many changes as they journey to new heights. During their first year of formal schooling it is important that students master the behavioral skills of getting along with others, making responsible choices, and following directions.
Some of the things that students will be expected to master during their kindergarten year are: recognizing colors, shapes, numbers, letters, letter sounds, reading sight words, the proper formation of letters, and the writing of their first and last name. Students will participate in many hands-on science experiments such as, watching the life cycle of a Monarch butterfly; hands-on math activities with manipulatives, such as graphing, patterning and sorting; hands-on activities with letters such as, writing in shaving cream, forming letters with objects that begin with the letter of study, (M made from marshmallows, G made from green glitter, O made from oats). We will also have “Fun Days” that go with the letter of study such as H-hat day, S-silly sock day, and P-pajama day.
All these and more wonderful things will be taught through fun units or themes of study: America, Texas, Fall, Holidays around the World, and many more. We will also celebrate with special days for each holiday, 100th Day of School Celebration, and Western Day.
