Speech Therapy
I am the Speech Therapist for Ortiz Elementary. I have worked at Ortiz for the past 12 years. Students that attend speech therapy do so to work on their communication skills. Speech Therapy is separated into two categories: Speech and Language.
Speech includes articulation, voice, and fluency. Articulation is learning to use appropriate sounds. Voice is learning to use appropriate rate, pitch, loudness, and quality. Fluency is learning to use fluent or smooth speech.
When we work on Language skills, we may work on a variety of different things like vocabulary, listening, grammar, and basic concepts.
Communication is the Key for the Ortiz Speech Students!
