Dear Abilene ISD Families;
I am proud to announce that the Abilene Independent School District will open New Tech High School in August 2009. The school will begin with approximately 100 ninth grade students chosen by lottery from current 8th grade students in Abilene ISD and area schools. We will be creating a new high school that will incorporate the Project-Based Learning model of the New Technology Foundation and the T-STEM initiative through the Texas High School Project. As a community, we have been studying these exciting initiatives for over a year. After much conversation and deliberation, we are ready to share the vision of New Tech.
There are many questions regarding New Tech that need to be answered such as, how will this be different from what my student is currently experiencing in school and how will this help them succeed at the next level of their education or in the job force? As the Director of NTHS, I would like an opportunity to present the concept in its entirety and answer your questions.
We are going to proceed with communication in two different ways. One way is through a community forum that will happen at the Hunter Welcome Center on the campus of ACU. Another is through a series of TechTalk meetings that will take place at Mann and Madison Middle schools and One AISD Center. Listed below are the dates and times for the various meetings:
• April 14, - Parent Informational Session (including a student panel from NTHS@Coppell) – Hunter Welcome Center at ACU, 7:30-8:30pm
• April 16 – TechTalk (parent session)– Mann Middle School auditorium, 7:00pm
• April 21 – TechTalk (parent session)– Madison Middle School auditorium, 6:00pm
• April 23 – TechTalk (parent session)– One AISD Center, Board Room, 6:00pm
Our ultimate goal is to maintain an open line of communication with you regarding New Tech High School. Please feel free to contact me at the above number at any time if you need more clarification or information. Your support and encouragement are essential for the success of our students in the 21st Century.
I have included several websites that you can browse to find additional information on our program. I hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
John M. Martinez
