With the inclusion of a new Honorable Mention category this year, AISD earned its most nominations since first entering the competition in 2014. Last year, a combined AHS-CHS production of “Seussical” garnered 10 nominations, including Best Musical.

Vying for top awards this year were Griffin Jones of Cooper for Best Leading Actor, Clarissa Ingalle of CHS for Best Featured Actress, Jess Westman of AHS for Best Supporting Actor, and AHS chorus members for Best Ensemble/Chorus.

Honorable Mention nominations also went to the AHS production for Best Direction, Stage Crew/Technical, Featured Actor (Tim Evans), Featured Actress (Louisa Lee) and Supporting Actress (Hannah McLean). Cooper’s “Fiddler on the Roof” earned Honorable Mention nominations for Musical Direction and Stage Crew/Technical.
The awards night began with a red carpet entrance followed by the ceremony, which featured performances from nominees for Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Musical. The show opened with a medley performed by all nominated students accompanied by a live orchestra.

Winners of the Best Performance by an Actor and Actress receive all-expense paid trips for five days to New York City to represent their high school in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (the Jimmy Awards) for the chance to win prizes and scholarships.
