ABILENE – The Cooper Cougars will begin their 2020 playoff trek at home next Friday, Dec. 11, when they host Mansfield Summit in a Class 5A-I Region I bi-district game at Shotwell Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Cougars – 7-1 overall during the COVID-abbreviated regular season – went undefeated in District 3-5A (6-0) to claim the league title. Cooper has won seven straight games with each of the wins coming by double figures. In fact, it’s closest win in that stretch was a 10-point win over crosstown rival Abilene High (30-20) on Oct. 2, the first victory in the winning streak.

Summit, meanwhile, enters the game at 4-4 overall and finished fourth in District 4-5A at 3-2.

The game can be heard on 102.5 FM The Bear and will also be streamed live on the AISD-TV Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/aisdtv).

Tickets for the game will go on sale Monday at 8 a.m. at the One AISD Center (241 Pine St.) or at any Cooper feeder school in the AISD system. Tickets will be sold at the One AISD Center from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Friday.

District employees can still get their free tickets to the game, but they will be limited to just two free tickets per employee. Gold and Legacy cards will not be honored for any playoff games.

Pre-sale ticket prices are $8 for adults and $4 for students (or any child who takes up a seat), while tickets purchased at the gate are $10 for everyone.

Abilene High qualified for the Class 6A playoffs, but the Eagles still don’t know an opponent, site or date for their Class 6A-II bi-district playoff game.
