Jana Lindley of Clack Middle School is among 12 statewide science teachers honored in the Texas Medical Association’s 2017 Ernest and Sara Butler Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching.

Lindley, a 7th grade science teacher and department chair at Clack, was among the teachers in attendance at the Texas House of Representatives on May 9, National Teacher Day, as legislators passed a resolution honoring the 2017 winners. Rep. Stan Lambert and Sen. Dawn Buckingham both recognized Lindley during her day at the state capitol.

The Texas Medical Association (TMA) recognizes elementary, middle school and high school teachers “for helping to create tomorrow’s physicians by inspiring students in the field of science.” As part of the recognition, Lindley received a $4,000 cash prize, and the school received a $1,000 resource grant to enhance its science program.

Lindley taught science for four years at John Glenn Middle School in San Angelo before joining the Clack faculty in 2012 as an 8th grade science teacher. She has taught 7th grade science and served as the Science Department chair since 2015.
