Abilene ISD is committed to equipping our schools with the resources, autonomy, and support necessary to meet the unique needs of every student. The office of innovation oversees programs and initiatives in support of that goal.
In the spring of 2024, Abilene ISD joined TEA's System of Great Schools Network, a program that aims to improve educational outcomes across the state by focusing on creating diverse, high-quality options for educational environments that meet the specific needs of all students. Texas school districts who join the SGS Network participate in a 4-year program that provides district leaders with technical assistance, professional learning communities, and support in applying for grants and other financial resources.
AISD aims to become the leading district in the Big Country by implementing innovative programs that utilize facilities and resources efficiently. In July of 2024, the district began engaging in conversations with community members with a focus on:
maximizing student and staff experiences at schools
increasing enrollment in schools with strong innovative offerings
minimizing the long-term effects of downsizing operations
