Kids Learning Together (KLT)
The KLT program is a fee-based reverse mainstream program in an environment where the program is designed for special education students but includes typically developing peers as role models. Three and four-year-old children of district employees are eligible for enrollment. Children enrolled in the KLT program must not have a diagnosed disability, including a speech disability. This requirement is based on the need for the children enrolled in the KLT program to be age-appropriate role models for the children in the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) classroom.
The goal is to provide communication and social models for children in our ECSE classrooms while also providing a developmentally appropriate preschool education for our KLT students. The projected ratio is 6:6 (child with special needs:typically developing child). Three adults are assigned to the classroom. Staff includes a certified teacher and two classroom assistants.
