Early Childhood

Bright futures start early!

Abilene ISD offers free early childhood programs for qualifying children aged 0-4 at Long Early Learning Center and Crockett Early Head Start. These programs provide nurturing, enriching, and safe environments for children to develop a foundation of academic and personal success.

Long Early Learning Center

Long Early Learning Center serves preschool age children in seven individual programs which include Head Start, Pre-Kindergarten, Pre-School Program for Children with Disabilities, Regional School for the Deaf, Bilingual, School Readiness Integration and Kids Learning Together.

Limited transportation from Abilene ISD elementary schools is provided to Long ELC.

Crockett Head Start

Crockett Early Head Start offers comprehensive child development services for children from birth to three years of age in a developmentally appropriate setting. The purpose of the program is to enhance children’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development; to support parents’ efforts to fulfill their parental roles; and to help parents move toward self-sufficiency.

Early Head Start also serves pregnant and parenting teens in Abilene ISD. The Crockett Early Head Start works closely to provide services to families to empower them to be successful in school and life.
