Abilene ISD is proud to announce that Janaye Wideman has been named principal of Bowie Elementary School, after serving as interim since January. A 17-year veteran teacher and leader in Abilene ISD, Wideman most recently served as the district’s director of assessment and accountability.
“Janaye is a proven leader with extensive experience in elementary education,” Superintendent Dr. John Kuhn said. “She has done a phenomenal job leading Bowie as interim principal, and I am confident that Bowie students and staff will continue to thrive under her leadership.”
Wideman has deep experience supporting and developing successful students and teachers in AISD. She first joined the district as a fourth grade teacher in 2007, advancing to serve as a grade level chair, instructional coordinator, assistant principal, and principal. In her role overseeing assessment, Wideman’s primary focus was promoting better student outcomes in classrooms across Abilene ISD.
“I am deeply honored to be selected to transition into the role of principal at Bowie Elementary,” Wideman said. “Since joining the Bowie family in January, I've been warmly welcomed and inspired by the dedication of the teachers, the bright spirit of the students and the supportive community. I look forward to continuing to build upon and contributing to the strong foundation already established at Bowie.”
Wideman holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in math education from the University of Texas and a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Abilene Christian University. She also holds certificates in gifted and talented education and English as a second language.
