Welcome to the Alcorta Family. I am Stormy Burns and I am serving as the school counselor here at Alcorta. I am a product of the AISD school system, attending Thomas Elementary and Alta Vista Elementary, Madison Middle School, and graduated from Cooper High School.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Baylor University and my Master of Education in Counseling and Human Development from Hardin Simmons University. I began teaching in 2015 and have worked in both elementary schools and junior high schools. I enjoy working with students and their families and I look forward to being able to serve as your school counselor!

Guidance Counselor Responsibilities

My responsibilities as the school counselor include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing a comprehensive developmental guidance program for all students

  • Connecting students and their families with community resources

  • Short term individual counseling for students needing social, emotional, or academic support

  • Group counseling on specific topics such as building self-esteem, making and keeping friends, conflict resolution, coping skills, and social skills

  • Classroom guidance lessons

  • 504 coordination

  • STAAR Test coordination
